DPW Manages City Infrastructure

Water, sewer, streets, parks, and cemeteries are among the DPW's many responsibilities.

The City's 2 water towers and 4 wells are capable of pumping more than 4,000 gallons a minute, and are kept running smoothly by the DPW staff. The DPW is also responsible for sewers and lift stations, streets and snow plowing, park and cemetery maintenance, and the city motor pool, including police and ambulance vehicle care and maintenance.

Fire Hydrant Flushing

Fire HydrantCity of Belding fire hydrants are scheduled to be flushed on these dates in 2017:

April 9, 10, 11 and 12 
September 10, 11, 12 and 13 

Brush Pickup Service

Brush to be picked up must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the dates listed below, but no earlier than the 18th of the month. The total amount of brush and limbs per household must not exceed 10 cubic yards per month. This may be waived at the discretion of the Director of Public Works in cases of devastating storms.

To ensure pick-up, please locate brush in a clear area, away from any obstacles and overhead wires.

Please remember to call MISS DIG at (800) 482-7171 before digging on your property.

Your call alerts utility companies so they can stake the location of utilities, helping you to avoid them while digging.

The utility companies can bill you for damages if they are not notified.

Each of our water towers holds 500,000 gallons.
The City's public parks total more than 150 acres.
The City has 36 miles of streets. That's a lot of snow plowing!

Yard Waste Pickup Service

Yard waste and leaves placed in biodegradable bags will be picked up beginning April 21, 2017. Please place bags at the curb on Friday pickup days by 7:00 a.m., but no earlier than 24 hours before.

Bags must not exceed 35 pounds, and must not contain anything other than yard waste. No rocks, shingles, garbage or brush.

DEQ regulations prohibit disposing of leaves or yard waste in the river.
